Broken Vessels Quaker Ministries is happy to announce the return of The Deeper Roots program. Deborah Shaw, Deborah Fisch, and Lloyd Lee Wilson will lead a group of committed Friends in a “deep dive” into the history of our Quaker faith, a Quaker perspective on the Bible and how to benefit from it, sampling spiritual practices and disciplines valuable to Friends, and building authentic spiritual community. Four long weekend residencies over 18 months, beginning 9/10-13, 2020, at Ben Lomond Quaker Center in CA. Suitable for seasoned Friends as well as those relatively new to Quakerism. On Sunday we will be having our Monthly Business Meeting preceded by a potluck lunch. A $3 contribution is requested if you have not brought a dish. First time guests do not need to pay.

Alternatives to Violence (AVP)’s Conflict Resolution Workshop will take place at the church building on Saturday October 12, 19, and 26 from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. Come to this three part series to learn how to deal with interpersonal conflict in healthy, straightforward, and productive ways. Suggested donation of $35 to $100. Breakfast and lunch provided. Advance registration required by emailing [email protected] or calling Amy at (510) 394-2622.

The promises of the world turn to ashes and dust, but the promises of God last forever. The Holy One calls to us: “Come!” We come to rekindle the gift of God ablaze within us.

This Sunday, October 6 from 12:30 to 3PM, a community outdoor BBQ will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Berkeley Food Pantry. Grilled meats, vegetarian options and sides will be provided. Come enjoy the food and each other’s company on the playground at the church.

The Berkeley Neighborhood Food Project’s next Harvest Day is this coming Sat, Oct 12. On Sunday we will bring all of the church’s contributions together so we can give thanks and pray for all of the hungry folks in our community. If you would like to help at Harvest Day on the 12th, please contact Pantry Director, Dharma Galang. If you are interested in helping on Harvest Day, please contact Pantry Director, Dharma Galang.

May the Holy Spirit be with us as we worship. May our eyes be open to truly see one another, that we might discover God’s presence in the smile of a neighbor. May our ears be open to the needs of the world, that we might hear God’s wisdom in the words spoken around us. And our hearts be open to God’s grace and love, that we might find guidance and strength for the journey, for ourselves and for one another.
