— The Ministry and Counsel Committee

George Lakey is a longtime Friend and activist.
His newest book is HOW WE WIN: A Guide to Nonviolent Direct Action Campaigning with a release date of November 2018. The Bay area is one of the first stops on his book tour; Strawberry Creek Monthly Meeting will be hosting a book talk tonight, Friday, November 30, at 7:15 PM, at Berkeley Meetinghouse (corner of Walnut and Vine, enter on Vine Street).
Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting regards George Lakey’s book tour as part of his ministry for nonviolence. He will share with us his understanding of how Quakers through the centuries revealed the power of direct action campaigning, and how that relates to today’s national crisis-time.

Saturday, December 1, 6 PM. Join us for dinner with Micah at Nong Thon Restaurant in El Cerrito, 10086 San Pablo Ave. El Cerrito. This is a spacious, family-friendly restaurant. Young children are welcome! The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. No need to RSVP – just come. It’s 3.5 short blocks from El Cerrito Plaza BART station and on the 72 bus line – San Pablo Ave. Park on San Pablo north of Central Ave. or at Burger King.

Micah’s visit here (Fri, Nov 30 – Fri, Dec. 7) is for job interviews and to conduct a housing search but he is also eager to make time for meet ups with us, especially with those he has met only briefly or not at all. Are you available to get together with Micah? Please let Tomi know!

Sunday, December 2 Micah will share a message at Meeting for Worship. We hope you can join us!

The Berkeley Neighborhood Food Project’s next Harvest Day is Saturday, Dec. 8. We want to bring all of the church’s contributions together this Sunday, December 2. Before you head out the door next Sunday, be sure to grab that green bag full of food and bring it with you into worship. If you would also like to help at the Harvest Day on the 8th please contact Dharma Galang, Director.

Choir will meet Sunday, December 10, at 1:00 PM.

Our Christmas party this year will be on Tuesday, December 18 at 6:00 PM in Fellowship Hall.  We will have a dessert potluck, crafts, carol singing and a Christmas Bible reading.

Christian Friends Conference will be meeting Saturday, December 8 from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM at Palo Alto Meeting, 957 Colorado Ave. in Palo Alto. The gathering will focus on Christ centered worship. There will be Bible reading in worship, silent waiting worship, fellowship over lunch and brief planning session. Lunch is brown bag (bring your own). Beverages and bagels will be provided in the morning. For questions please contact Bruce Folsom.

The Berkeley Food Pantry has been chosen to be a recipient of Safeway’s Holiday Feed the Need Campaign, which will run until December 25. Safeway’s campaign will allow them to provide shelf-stable items, such as chicken breast, chicken noodle soup, corn, green beans, cereal, peanut butter, spaghetti, peaches, cheese ravioli, and pasta sauce, to the pantry free of charge. If you would like to help the Berkeley Food Pantry, please visit one of the Safeway Community Markets either at 1850 Solano Ave. or at 1550 Shattuck Ave. and purchase a hunger bag at the check-out stand for a suggested donation of $1, $5, or $10. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to speak to Dharma Galang, Director.
