THE FOOD PANTRY

The Berkeley Food Pantry is a ministry of Berkeley Friends Church, in cooperation with other churches and synagogues in Berkeley and  the Alameda County Food Bank which distributes a variety of food items to residents of Berkeley and Albany who have emergency needs. Recipients are referred to the Food Pantry  by  social service agencies in Berkeley, such as the City of Berkeley Department of Health, by drop-in centers, the Center for Independent Living and the Over 60 Health Care Clinic.

To qualify for food the recipient must present a photo I.D.or driver's license as evidence of a residency in  Berkeley or Albany and a referral from an agency such as one of the above.

The Pantry distributes food for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (following USDA procedures), as well as donated and purchased food; these purchases are made possible by contributions and grants.

The Pantry is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 2-4 p.m
                                                      Tel. 510-525-2780.

Our facilities are used by various organizations in the community which are not necessarily a part of our ministry, but whose  outreach we encourage; Cedar Creek Montessori School is one of them.

Cedar Creek Montessori School, open year round, 7:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m., serves preschool and kindergarten children aged 2 years 9 months to 6.  Full-time and part-time schedules are offered.

The Montessori based philosophy recognizes and celebrates the individuality of each child, nurturing inquisitiveness, creativity and self-reliance. The whole child develops at Cedar Creek, where making friends is just as important as learning to read, and sliding down the pole is applauded as much as counting to one hundred.
