John H Maurer, for the Ministry and Counsel Committee

This weekend the Ministry and Counsel Committee invites you to meet Micah Bales and Faith Kelley and one of their children, 8-month old son Francis.
Tomorrow, Saturday, May 19, please join them for lunch at 1:00 PM or dinner at 6 PM, both in Fellowship Hall.
The following day, Sunday, May 20, Micah will be bringing the message during worship.
Their visit is part of our discernment process for a half-time pastor position at BFC. Birthright Quakers, Micah and Faith currently work as a pastor team for the Washington City Church of the Brethren in Washington D.C.

This Sunday, May 20, we will be having our Monthly Business Meeting preceded by a potluck lunch. A $3.00 contribution is requested if you have not brought a dish. First-time guests do not need to pay.

Peace, Environment and Christian Social Concerns will meet next Sunday, May 27, at 1:00 PM.

Peace Environment, and Christian Social Concerns will be showing “Healing Justice,” a World Trust film by Shakti Butler, on Friday, June 1. Doors open at 6:30; film starts at 7PM. The film addresses the question: “How can restorative practices be used to shift the way we address crime and violence in our communities to produce safer, healthier, thriving communities for all?”

The Berkeley Neighborhood Food Project’s next Harvest Day is Saturday, June 9. We want to bring all of the church’s contributions together on Sunday, June 3, so we can give thanks together, and pray for all of the hungry folks in our community. Also, if you are interested in helping on Harvest Day, please contact Pantry Director, Dharma Galang.

AFSC, Church World Service, and the Unitarian Universalist Assoc. are launching an online course (three 1.5-hour sessions in June, July, August) entitled Creating Sanctuary/Changing Ourselves. The purpose is to jump start local groups to do anti-racism self reflection work and to participate in the Sanctuary movement. Please see Tomi if you would like more information and/or are interested in joining a BFC group.

Please pray for, donate, and or march with the Poor People’s Campaign. The campaign is committing to 40 days of nonviolent action. It is a national call to moral revival, a mass mobilization led by poor and working people to challenge systemic poverty, racism, militarism and ecological devastation www.poorpeoplescampaign.org.
